This text deals with the treatment given to the specialization of Sociology of Art as a specific branch of knowledge in the Social Sciences explored by Nathalie Heinich in her work called Sociology of Art. It is presented in the form of a critical review, pointing out the main points addressed in the referenced work, placing the author of the peculiarities in relation to the advances for the delimitation of the discipline. It is concluded that Nathalie Heinich inaugurates a new stage for the advancement of the Sociology of Art, as she overcomes the sociological action based on criticism and proposes that sociologists of art can proceed with the research of the regularities that govern the multiplication of actions, of objects, authors, institutions, representations, composing the collective existence of the phenomena understood by the term “art”.
